Glimpses of Israel - Jerusalem a Burdensome Stone

"And it shall happen in that day that I will make Jerusalem a very heavy stone for all peoples . . . " (Zechariah 12:3)

Nestled in the hills of Judah, Jerusalem sits quietly, humbly, unassuming. The night comes, as darkness begins to fall.

All round her the nations gather, secretly scheming her ruin. Desperate to negotiate 'the status of Jerusalem', international leaders meet. They set agendas, forecast road maps, and implement 'agreed' objectives, in the hope of a workable peace. Jerusalem will be like all the other cities of the world, they say. But Jerusalem is not like any other city. Its destiny is holy, because its status comes from God.

" . . . for Jerusalem's sake I will not rest, until her righteousness goes forth as brightness and her salvation as a lamp that burns . . . " (Isaiah 62:1)

Jerusalem is the City which God has set aside for His Kingdom. It is destined to be the City of Righteousness, from which every other city learns God's holy ways. Any other agenda is man-made and guaranteed to be burdensome.
