Glimpses of Israel - No Weapon Formed Against Thee Shall Prosper

by Joseph Hunting

"NO WEAPON THAT IS FORMED AGAINST THEE SHALL PROSPER"

Just as World War 1 prepared the Land for the People and World War 2 prepared the People for the Land, so the rebirth of the State of Israel saw a new era dawn for the Land AND the People.

For nearly two thousand years homeless world Jewry has been the target for the ugly virus of anti-Semitism. The Crusades, the Inquisition, the Pogroms and finally the hatred of Hitler and his henchmen have left deep scars of suffering that will never be erased.

On the other hand, when the People and the Land were united, when they became 'echad' (one) the world witnessed a miracle which it hasn't yet recognized nor understood, that the covenant-keeping God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, the God of Israel, is just the same today.

When the Arab states hurled themselves against the almost defenceless infant State of Israel in 1948 they confidently expected a walk-over victory in a matter of days. What they didn't take into account was that the God of Israel had now introduced a new era for his covenant. People. Thirty-five years on, and a further four bloody conflicts later, have apparently failed to impress the Arab leaders, the P.L.O., the U.N., Presidents and Politicians that God is still in the business of fulfilling His promises concerning His people.

Equally potent with Isaiah's prediction that "no weapon that is formed against thee shall prosper" (54:17), is the promise made four thousand years ago to Abraham, "I will bless them that bless thee, and curse him that curseth thee." (Genesis 12:3) The Pharaohs, Hamans and Hitlers of history have all found the curse to be right on target. So have Israel's oppressors during the past thirty-five years of Statehood. And equally potent is the promise of blessing to those who love Israel and recognize the debt of gratitude due to them for blessings that have enriched humanity through their God and their Book, the Bible.
