Glimpses - Israel A Modern Story of Purim

Ahaseurus was the king of the most powerful empire of the time, Persia. During his reign, Haman, a close advisor persuaded the king to issue an evil decree calling for the annihilation of the Jewish people. Haman the Agagite was eventually hanged as a traitor.

And the Children of Israel, the object of the evil decree, well, they lived to tell the story, and the great victory which God brought on their behalf. Haman had failed to comprehend the faithfulness of the God of Israel. But Haman is not alone.

In modern times, the leader of Germany, Adolph Hitler with the support of his Nazi regime, failed to grasp these truths, too. Note, the evil regime is no more, while the Jewish people live to tell the story, and is once again tangible proof to the generation who has eyes to see, and ears to hear, that God is faithful to His promises to the Patriarchs, Abraham, Isaac and Israel.

Moreover, let it be known, even though the Jewish people are dispersed among the nations, exiled from the Promised Land, they are still in covenant relationship with God. Haman did not perceive this, neither did Hitler.

Since the days of the original Purim, the Jewish people continued to live dispersed among the nations, and have celebrated Purim each year in exile.

Today, with the establishment of the State of Israel, the Jewish people are returning home, and it is like celebrating Purim every day – the enemies of Israel called for Israel's annihilation, they lost. Israel lives to tell the story! Israel is home! Let the celebrations begin! – Purim, this year, is celebrated on 21-22 March. Let us rejoice because of God's goodness towards His People, and may we be encouraged toward righteousness because of His faithfulness.
