Editorial - Our God Shall Come

by Joy Hunting

Nobody and nothing can alter the fact that one day "our God shall come", and nobody and nothing has the power to prevent this amazing future event, because the Word of God says it will be so, and "His word is for ever settled in heaven" (Psalm 119:89).

He will come "with ten thousands of his saints" (Jude 14); all will come with the Lord who are "called saints" , those who have walked in His ways and obeyed His commandments; those who as Moses said: "love the LORD your God ... obey his voice ... and cling to him, for he is your life" (Deuteronomy 30:20).

In fact the Word in Psalm 50 tells us that "our God shall come, and shall not keep silent; a fire shall devour before him, and it shall be very tempestuous all around him." If we shrink at the chaos we see in many parts of the world in these days, and if the people of Israel tremble for their future and the future of their land and of their city Jerusalem, then even when "our God shall come" , He will be accompanied by "tempestuous" activity "all around him" .

He will not come because there is general peace throughout the world, and peace between Israel and the surrounding nations in the Middle East, else why "a fire devour before him" and it be "very tempestuous all around him" ? But the Psalmist says: "God himself is Judge" and His Word is: "Hear O my people, and I will speak O Israel, and I will testify against you; I am God, your God! ... Offer to God thanksgiving, and pay your vows to the Most High. CALL UPON ME IN THE DAY OF TROUBLE; I will deliver you, and you shall glorify me."

If the people of Israel, even including their leaders, should have any doubts about the reality of God and of His identification with Zion His city, Zion His land and Zion His people, they are left in no doubt when the Lord Himself affirms: "Hear O my people, and I will speak, O Israel ... I am God, your God!"

He will come either to "show the salvation of God" to "those who have made a covenant with me by sacrifice" or it will be "very tempestuous all around him" . Either way "OUR GOD SHALL COME!"
