Editorial - "No Weapon That Is Formed Against Thee Shall Prosper"

by Joseph Hunting

Ever since the State of Israel was reborn on May 14th 1948 a constant state of war has been maintained by surrounding countries with the exception of Egypt (but only since Sadat's overture). On Israel's part there is never a moment's let-up in the constant vigilance maintained along its borders.

In spite of Arab implacable hostility and their refusal to recognize Israel's right to exist, the Lord has promised: "No weapon that is formed against thee shall prosper, and every tongue that shall rise against thee in judgement thou shalt condemn." (Isaiah 54:17). How true that promise has been ever since the Star of David was unfurled on that memorable Yom Ha'atzmaut (Day of Independence) thirty-eight years ago.

A backward glance over Israel's long and tragic history reveals the fact that this nation's arch-enemy, Satan, never lets up in his efforts to wipe out this nation with a Divinely appointed destiny. In the past his instuments, Pharaoh, Haman and Hitler failed, even though a frightful price was paid by six million Jewish martyrs during the Holocaust. The four savage attacks destined to eliminate Israel since 1948 have further vindicated the promise delivered by Isaiah so long ago.

If the track record of the past is a guide for the present, and even future events, we may expect present hostility to continue. The same God that promises Israel, "Though I make a full end of all nations whither I have scattered thee, yet will I not make a full end of thee", declares that He is going to preserve Israel from a massive invasion of the Middle East by Russia "in the latter days".

One may be forgiven for being a little sceptical about Israel's ability to emerge victorious over the mighty impact of a full-scale invasion "out of the north parts" by Russia with a formidable array of allies, described in the 38th chapter of Ezekiel. But in spite of scepticism the nations of the world will witness the awesome wrath of Almighty God when His "fury mounts up in His face" and the nations involved will learn that "it is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God".
