Editorial - Commentby Joseph Hunting At 4 p.m. on May 14th in Jerusalem the Union Jack was lowered as the turbulent years of the British Mandate over Palestine ended. At 4.20 p.m. on the same day in Tel Aviv Mr. David Ben Gurion read the historic proclamation of the Independence of the State of Israel, and Jews from all over the world rejoiced at the realization of a dream that had sustained the scattered Exiles of Israel for nearly 2,000 years. During the twenty-five years that have passed since the rebirth of the State of Israel on the soil of its ancient homeland, its people have had to fight three wars in order to survive. Many Christians, as well as our Jewish friends, see the rebirth of the State of Israel as the fulfilment of prophecy, and the preservation of Israel as the outworking of God's promise to this nation: "No weapon that is formed against thee shall prosper." On this 25th Anniversary, I wish to convey to all our Jewish friends our sincere good wishes. We share with you in the rejoicing at this time. May the God of Abraham ever overshadow Israel with His loving protection and blessing. |
